About Richard Waldron
If you like impressionistic landscape and figure work, mine may take your fancy. I strive to make reality more than real, telling a story in compositions whilst emphasising light and colour.
I am influenced by the Fauves, by Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso in particular. I strive towards impressionistic and slightly expressionistic rendering, though return to 'academic' drawing regularly. I wish to explore the 'fun' side of painting, as Picasso did so well, particularly with his pots.
I abhore the lack of skills to be seen in so much new conceptual art. (Crap in my book).
I believe that photography can now be claimed as a true art form, especially since one can manipulate, mix and change photographs hugely to become works of art in their own right. Currently I use photography in the purer sense, though I hope to experiment more with images as art form. I also shoot portraiture commercially, especially children and babies under the CyclopsPhoto label.
Studied at Croydon College of Art 1960-63. Also attended life classes at Central School of Art and evening class at LCP. Worked as a graphic designer until 2007, giving one day a week to teaching in Colleges of Art including Hull, Norwich, Epsom, Croydon and Reigate. Taught drawing and Painting at Ruxley Lane, Epsom. Also practicing as a portrait photographer 2007 onward. Now also working in fine art and teaching in Pixham, Dorking and online.
