I paint figurative landscape and figure, some still life; telling a story or expressing emotion, emphasising light and colour. I mean to settle to one or two genres, landscape and portraiture..
Influenced by post impressionists, I work to a "neo post-impresssionist", or academic rendering.
I abhor the lack of skills in so much 'conceptual' art. Artists such as Hockney and Hopper in the USA, Ken Howard and Peter Brown in the UK are to me representative of modern representational art..
Marija Posso, curator and publicist based in New York City says: "I really enjoy your art, especially the visceral, landscape paintings. Each piece conveys a sense of endless wonder and imagination. Your stylistic approach reminds me of reflections, memories and dreams combined with reality. I find these works to be thoughtful, moving, and I'd like to know more about them."
I spent 40 years as a designer, in corporate branding and marketing. I now build on an early fine art training at Croydon School of Art. I teach drawing and painting. I work en plein air when possible, influenced by light, colour and a 'story'. My work is exhibited with the PainterStainers Fine Art Society, the Dorking Group of Artists and several on-line Galleries, and am published at www.saatchionline.com/profile/178864.
In 2015 I won Bronze Frame in the international ArTTable Be Still competition with a watercolour still life and had 4 other pieces exhibited.
I was shortlisted for the Pastel Society exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London, 2015.
For the ArtaVita competition I was awarded a Certificate of Excellence as well as being invited to hang my work at their New York Gallery.
I appeared with a double page spread and cover in Aspire Magazine during 2015.

Before taking up painting seriously in various media (especially oils and pastels), Richard spent 40 years as a graphic designer, specialising in corporate branding and marketing graphics for clients including GlaxoWellcome, Woolwich, Thames Water, British Gas, NHS et al. He has now taken up his brush and reverted to memories of an early training at the original Croydon Art School in the '60's. He learned more from Ken Bates in Epsom Adult Education, before Ken (regrettably deceased) asked him to take a class. He has taught drawing and painting privately, whilst developing figurative drawing and painting. He likes to work en plein air when possible. He is influenced by light, by colour and the telling a 'story' in a painting - or photograph. His work is also exhibited with the PainterStainers Fine Art Society, the Dorking Group of Artists and B Gallery, and is also published at www.saatchionline.com/profile/178864.
He won Bronze Frame in the 2015 international ArTTable Be Still competition with a watercolour still life.
